Death is often a taboo word and many people are afraid to talk about death. After being in the funeral industry for over 10 years and having planned our own parents’ funerals; we appreciate the benefits of funeral pre-planning and also advocate that we talk about death in an open manner.
What exactly is pre-planning?
In our humble opinion, it is simply informing our family members, who will be in-charge of our funerals, the things that we want or do not want. We often think about our funerals when we know that we are approaching death. This awareness comes with age and sickness. As we age, our body parts starts to wear and tear; it is going to stop working one day. So old age is a natural inclination that we will go home soon. Sickness is another way that we will approach death and most of the time, we will know how much time we have left on earth.
We have found that when family members know what the person wants for their funeral, there are less conflicts among family members as the decision has already been made; they just need to execute and perform the wishes of the person. Talking about the impending death amongst family members actually helps, in a certain way, to cushion the impact and start the grieving process earlier.
By sharing, talking, and communicating, you will be surprised on the possibilities that relationships may be restored, hearts may be healed, joy may be found, and salvation may be received.
Professionally, on our end; if it benefits you to talk and discuss with a funeral director so that you can be better prepared when death happens, you can always contact us and we will give you a brief breakdown of what will happen and the things that needs to be prepared. From experience, we won’t know when death will happen. It might be a day, a week, a month, three months… we won’t know. Therefore, treasure the months, weeks, days, down to the seconds; spend time with your loved ones and express everything that’s in your heart.
May today’s short moments of joy become treasured memories in the future.
