What’s so special about the Civic.

Honda cars occupy a special place in both Howard and Alexis’s heart. They both grew up having their parent’s owning a Honda Odyssey and Honda Civic respectively, so it was kinda like a family member. The significance of the Civic increased after Alexis’s dad was diagnosed with stage 3, pancreatic cancer. The Civic was passed to her since dad was in no position to drive; and being a new driver herself, she thought this is the time to be a useful child and drive dad for hospital check ups.

Thus begins her journey of driving every day and soon becoming a better, and somewhat impatient driver.

Dad knows that I’m not a proficient driver and he once shook his head in disapproval of my reverse parking. It took me 5 minutes of going in and out of the lot before I got it right. It must have been stressful and frustrating for Dad not to be in the driver’s seat but the back passenger seat.

Dads will always be Dads. After visiting him at home, he knew I needed to drive to Tiong Bahru for a funeral and all he said was… be careful. Dads will always be Dads, regardless of their state… their greatest wish will always be the safety and well-being of their children.

Dad did not hang around for long, he left 5 months later.

On some days when I hold on to the steering wheel, it feels like Dad holding on to my hands.

So the Civic will always have a special place in our hearts… cause we combined the Civic and the car plate number of Howard’s mum – Helen Ker. If you see a blue Civic with the car plate number 5100. Thats us, wave and say hello if you want! Haha.

Dads will be Dads
